Grilled Plaice with Gherkin & Shallot Mayonnaise

Serves 2


  • 2 plaice fillets
  • 1 shallot - finely sliced
  • 2 large gherkins - rinsed and chopped
  • 125g of mayonnaise
  • ½ a lemon
  • 3 tbsp of plain flour - seasoned with salt and pepper
  • 65g of butter
  • 2 tbsp of salted capers
  • Handful of chopped parsley

Cooking Method

Preheat the oven to 220°C/fan200°C/gas 7

Put the shallots, gherkin, mayonnaise and a squeeze of lemon into a bowl and mix together

Press each side of the plaice fillets into the seasoned flour, then shake off any excess

Heat 15g of the butter in a non-stick frying pan

Add the fish skin-side up, and fry for 3-4 minutes until golden

Turn over and cook for a further 3-4 minutes until cooked and remove

Wipe out the pan and melt the remaining butter

Remove from the heat and add the capers and parsley

Season and spoon over the fish
